Greetings from Nice, France!
Just chilling back in our AirBnB, with the sea and stony beach stretching as far as the eye can see from Quai Des Etats-Unis and along the Promenade Des Anglais. It’s that sweet summer break I’ve been looking forward to, and guess who’s here with me? My wife, our youngest son, who’s nearing 16 soon, and his pal, who’s our special guest for the getaway. Meanwhile, our oldest one, all 21 and wise, decided to hold down the fort back in Ireland. His plan? Working and spending some quality time with his girlfriend. She’s just back from college in Holland and a whirlwind Eurorail escapade with her friends. Hope the weather plays nice for them this August, especially after Ireland’s record-breaking rainy July. But, it looks like the weatherman’s not cooperating for the first leg.
Now, usually, I like to spend a few hours each weekend in prepping the blog. Five poems or lyrics from my past work get to be showcased over the upcoming week. Then, one of them gets a little special treatment, being my personal top pick of the week, and shines on Instagram and Facebook. Here’s the thing, though: this time, my trusty notebook, home to all those possible gems, is hanging out back home.
Luckily for me, my latest notebook, housing the newest creations, made it on this trip. So, this week, we’re shaking things up a bit. The usual chronological sequence may be disrupted, but that’s alright. Art and expression has its own rhythm, after all!
Just so you know, I’ve accumulated a repertoire of over 700 pieces across various notebooks. And as of today, 566 pieces have found their home on this blog since its inception in September 2021. I’ve really surprised myself in doing this. How did that happen!
I sincerely hope that among these verses, you stumble upon a piece that resonates with you. Should you have any thoughts, questions, or even a hint of curiosity, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I assure you, your messages will find their way to me, even amid this picturesque scene.
Wishing you warmth and sunshine from this charming corner of the world.
Best regards,
Dave
The World Won’t Wait
I don’t wanna be the one
The one to tell you
The world doesn’t wait
It won’t stop turning for you
You can listen
Or you can ignore me
There’s plenty said this
Said this before me
Gotta find out
What it is that thrills you
Give your love to it
Until it kills you
It’s a dream
Yes it’s a reality
Get on top of
This duality
If you can see things
From both sides now
You’ll get through it
Live well somehow
Look in the mirror
Behind your eyes
You’re like a river
Has no ties
So roll on down
There’s gold in the dirt
Roll on down to the sea
Let go the river of hurt
